Don't Pick the Field That Pays the Most: How to Choose Your Freelance Field
No freelance field guarantees success or income. Three scenarios that explain why choosing on income alone fails, and what to base your decision on instead.

Marketing, programming, design, or any other freelance field: none of them guarantees success or income. So it isn't fair to tell a beginner, "Take this course and in three months you'll be paid in dollars." It's far more complicated than that, and there are three possibilities:
1. A profitable field that doesn't suit you
The field may be profitable and in demand, yet not fit your abilities or interests. Someone who naturally enjoys analysis, numbers and problem-solving will probably learn programming faster than graphic design, even if both pay well. The closer a field is to your personality, the better your chances of sticking with it and growing.
2. More hype than real value
A field can get more hype than it is worth: a trend, motivational videos, people talking about huge earnings, until it seems anyone who joins will make money. You start learning, and later discover the market has shifted or the skills you learned are no longer in demand, especially as AI tools evolve.
3. Going in for quick results
This is the most common one: the field genuinely suits you and pays, but you entered it in a hurry to earn, succeed and see results. At the first pressure or the first hard stretch you start thinking about quitting, even though the problem was never the field. It was your expectations of it.
So what should you choose on?
Your choice shouldn't be based on who earns the most, but on:
- Your personality.
- Your current situation.
- Your ability to keep going.
- How much the market actually needs the field.
The wrong choice can cost you years you could have invested far better.
